Website Design and Build for Vodi
The brief
Our client was after an ecommerce website for their new vodka brand, to help sell the vodka around the country. To encourage sales, the website needed to be easy to use for both the Vodi team and their customers, as well as look beautiful.
The website design needed to give a sense of the brand's personality to help sell to their target audience. Vodi is a Tasmanian-made vodka marketed to 18-30 year olds. It's a premium, smooth vodka that is mid-range in price and has beautiful packaging and branding. We wanted to sell the idea that Vodi is a great addition to your mixers.
To sum up the brief, the website needed to be:
An effective platform to sell the product
Easy for our client to use
Share the personality of the brand and really show off the product
How did we do this?
Tailor-made website perfect for our client
As with all our websites, we decide on what platform to build with depending on what works best for the client, the business, and the functionality required from the website. For us as developers, the right platform was WordPress but for our client to manage, Squarespace was a better choice, making it easy for the Vodi team to update as needed.
With custom coding, we were able to add all the functionality we needed to build the website just right, as well as give the website a look and feel unique to the brand and not straight out of the box Squarespace website.
Some of the features we added custom to the website include:
Facebook messenger chat - this allows customers to easily get assistance directly from the Vodi team
Additional cart features - we added a cart pop-up to improve the purchasing experience on the website by making it easier to view the shopping cart.
Website customised for alcohol e-commerce
To align with liquor regulations, the website needed to have age verifications on entering the site and at checkout.
This is not something that comes as standard with a Squarespace website, and what an additional feature that needed to be added. This Age Verification Gateway custom code was added to the website to ensure that no part of the website could be accessed without answering that you were of legal age. If not of legal age the user would be redirected to another page advising that they could not view the website.
Sharing the brand personality through website design
The design of this website had to not only be visually stunning but reflect the eye-catching branding and speak to their target consumer. We worked with copywriter Emma to create website copy with Vodi’s unique brand voice.
Some of the features of the website design include:
We expanded on Vodi’s branding by adding a font which is used in the headings throughout the website. We chose this font as it has a fun, rounded, retro feel that blends more classic sans serif styles with unique curves in some letters. It was a great match to the shapes in the Vodi pattern and adds something special to the design without being over the top.
A layout that creates a fun yet polished design. Through negative space, trendy font choice that compliments Vodi’s statement pattern and layout that lets the photography shine. We also added coding to layer the Vodi pattern throughout the website, creating interesting spacing and flow to the page.
Beautiful photography that sells
High-quality product photos were an essential component of the website design, helping to sell the product and show off the unique packaging of Vodi. We worked with photographer Michael OKeefe on this.
The beautiful photos are used throughout the website design, notably as large hero images on the home-page and ‘Inner-Mixologist’ recipes page. They share the packaging, beautiful cocktails, and of course, Vodi vibe.
The results
The final product is a beautiful e-commerce website that provides a seamless experience for customers.
