Website Design and Build for Fifteen Tables

The brief.

The client wanted a website that would help people find their location, view their menu and get an understanding of the dining experience at Fifteen Tables. Nothing too fancy - just to the point where the food and experience is the star of the show.

“each month there were more than 100 searches for the business but with no website all the traffic was likely going to competitors.”

The desired outcome of the restaurant was to help people get a sense of the restaurant, the dining experience and the food that they will be enjoying. The kind of bread and butter that we expect from a restaurants website in 2021.

In addition to the standard elements Kay & Rick from Fifteen Tables knew that due their close proximity to the Spirit of Tasmania a number of their guests are visitors to the state so they needed their website to work equally as well on mobile devices as a standard computer.

As part of our standard process all our websites come with a complete SEO strategy that’s based , in-part, on the search behaviour of the people who will be trying to find a restaurant in the area. This deep-dive into people’s search patterns revealed that each month there were more than 100 searches for the business but with no website all the traffic was likely going to competitors.

To sum up the brief -

  • Build a clean, easy to use website that let’s the food shine & helps people get in contact with the restaurant

  • Website must be responsive - meaning it needs to work on all devices

  • Capture the existing searches on Google that are currently going to competitors

  • Help locals discover the restaurant with local SEO optimisation

 The strategy & execution.

The SEO Strategy that we developed as part of the build for Fifteen Tables focused on attracting local traffic as well as searches from tourists visiting Tasmania. With their proximity to the Spirit of Tasmania, easy parking and focus on fresh, local produce they’re a destination for both local, intrastate and interstate guests.

This meant that we were focused on Google recognising and attributing Fifteen Tables to searches for resturants in the Devonport area but we needed to factor how tourists not familiar with the Devonport area would search and also plan their upcoming trip.

During the build we focused on creating a design that let the food speak for itself.

A clean white background with lots of negative space between the images helped the food pop and the images really shine.

We all eat with our eyes so the photos are the first thing that a potential diner sees when the Fifteen Tables website loads.

We believe that businesses should be empowered and have the access to oversee and manage their own digital assets, should they wish. With websites updating frequently with the seasons menu PDFs were uploaded allowing easy access for staff to update the menus as needs.

Lastly buttons with shortcuts to the menu & direct contact links were scattered conveniently throughout the website so it was easy for users to access the information they were after.

The results.

Since the website was launched over three months ago –

The menus have been viewed and downloaded more than 1000 times.

More than 50% of the website traffic comes from Melbourne indicating that the website is helping visitors plan their trip

Anecdotally the staff at the restaurant are reporting that their guests have clearly visited and researched and know exactly what to order, in some cases pre-ordering items that require additional cooking time when booking their meal.

Around 50% of the overall traffic is coming from Google searches
